Global iGuerilla Update

The Sunni-Shia Civil War has taken one more step towards all out conflict

Monday, April 6, 2015

On the 26th of March an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against the Shiite Houthi rebels who took over Yemen. The Iranian backed Houthi are Shia’s militiamen making a power play on Iran’s behalf to bag yet another Middle Eastern client state for their Persian sponsors.

Naturally Tehran warned Riyadh that it is taking a “dangerous step”, calling the attacks an “invasion.” Meanwhile Iran’s Qassem Suleimani, commander of the Qods Force, is leading a Shia offensive against ISIL in Tikrit, Iraq.

The Sunni anti-Iranian/Shiite alliance includes; the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain backing Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi. Significantly, Egypt announced its political and military support with Pakistan, Jordan, Morocco and Sudan joining suit.

The ‘other’ fight is between the Muslim moderates and the Islamist Jihadis.

On January 1st, Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi gave a speech at Al-Azhar University, asking for a revolution in Islam to reform the faith. He condemned Islamist radicalism that has made the Muslim world a source of “destruction” that is “making enemies of the whole world.”

“I am addressing the religious scholars and clerics. We must take a long, hard look at the current situation.”

“It is inconceivable that the ideology we sanctify should make our entire nation a source of concern, danger, killing and destruction all over the world.”

El Sisi continued, “so 1.6 billion people [in the Muslim world] will kill the entire world of 7 billion? That’s impossible... We need a religious revolution.”

El-Sisi’s wants to purge Islam of extremist intolerance and violence and eliminate terror groups like al-Qaeda and Islamic State.

Afghanistan’s new President Ashraf Ghani joined el Sisi by calling on Muslims to speak out against extremist groups stating that “silence is not acceptable” and “we are willing to speak truth to terror.” He said that Afghanistan will “never again” play host to terrorists.

“Afghanistan will be the graveyard of Al Qaeda and their foreign terrorist associates.”

This bodes well for those who seek to roll back Iranian encroachment and aggression and those who want to see Arab Muslims taking leadership of the struggle against Islamist extremism.
