Realpolitik meets the Middle East. Are we are seeing the emergence of pragmatic realism in a region typically governed by sectarian passion. At the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Saudi Arabia and Israel admitted to having held five bilateral meetings last year in India, Italy and the Czech Republic.
Shimon Shapira, a retired Israeli general stated, “We discovered we have the same problems and same challenges and some of the same answers.” He said they discussed ways to blunt Iranian aggression.
Anwar Majed Eshki, a retired Saudi general, laid out a provocative strategy in his closing remarks that included peace between Israel and the Arabs, regime-change in Iran, establishment of an Arab regional military force, and a call for an independent Kurdistan formed from parts of Iraq, Turkey and Iran.
Something’s afoot and it’s driven by Iranian aggression. This doesn’t bode well for Al Qaeda, the Islamic State, the Muslim Brotherhood or Hizballah but it should bode well for the world if it works.
“iGuerilla should be the first book packed in the duffel bag for those carrying the fight to the enemy.”
